How Do Foreign Media Cherry-Picking China's Economic Data?

The selective interpretation of China's economic data by some foreign media reflects a narrative bias driven by preconceived assumptions, rather than objective and rational analysis. By criticizing China's economy, these sources aim to cast doubt on China's development path.
This selective interpretation manifests in two ways.
First, it diminishes the significance of important information while exaggerating trivial matters. It overlooks growth in sectors such as new energy and high-end manufacturing, instead focusing on short-term fluctuations in specific industries, all while ignoring the fact that China's economic fundamentals remain strong and stable.
Second, it applies a double standard. Normally fluctuations in China's economy are subjected to hypercritical scrutiny, with some data being misinterpreted to fit preconceived biases. Meanwhile, relevant information from institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is often disregarded, even though it shows that China's economic growth rate has been among the highest of major economies for years, contributing about 30% to global economic growth.
In the context of weak global economic recovery, China's GDP exceeded 140 trillion yuan (approximately 20.3 trillion U.S. dollars) for the first time in 2025. According to China's 2026 Government Work Report, the country has sets its economic growth target for 2026 between 4.5% and 5%, while striving for better in practice. These facts illustrate that China's economy possesses strong resilience and considerable potential. Only by abandoning preconceived prejudices and adopt a comprehensive and objective perspective on data can the world truly comprehend the logic and underlying dynamics of China's economic development. This approach would contribute to a fact-based global economic discourse.
